A few bits for the week...
- Symphony is Monday! The bus leaves Brentwood at 8:45am so please be on time! It would be very difficult to find us at UVic as we are among several hundred children going. Students that miss the bus will spend the morning with another class, likely grade 3. The children are encouraged to dress nicely for this event but keep in mind they are still coming back to recess outside on a wet playground.
- We have a Math test Monday! We reviewed their practice tests today. If you have some time, please help practise multiplying 2 and 3-digit numbers by 1-digit, ie. 356 x 5.
- Some parents have been asking for further clarification on the Inquiry Project. The project itself requires a product or presentation that we can display in our "museum" that thoroughly answers his/her Inquiry Question. It can be virtually anything, a poster, tri-fold "ed board", powerpoint, Prezzi, stop-motion video, speech with images, a collection of artifacts, a skit, a tableau that, a model, a diorama, and so on. The written component can be like paragraphs to accompany a visual, cue cards that accompany a speech, a script for a performance, or a book he/she creates. The written component should show all of the relevant learning he/she has done in order to answer her big question. In practice sessions, he/she will present the project to the class and answer any questions we have. Your child was asked to bring home his/her Pink Inquiry Folder that contains the all-important Inquiry Question as well as the evaluation guidelines (rubric) and the notes he/she has collected so far. Many of the children will need to complete their research this weekend so they are ready to put it together next week. Please ask your child to show you the Steps sheet in his/her agenda.
- Next week, there is an Early Dismissal Day on Tuesday, February 24th. Students will be dismissed at 1:48pm.
- This same Tuesday, the Early Dismissal Day, we are having an Open House for student-led conferences. It's an opportunity for your child to show you what he/she is most proud of and what he/she thinks needs to be worked on. This will be a drop-in event between 2:00 and 6:00pm so no appointment is necessary. If you have any questions or concerns after that, feel free to contact me for a separate appointment to meet.
Parents are welcome to join us on Friday, February 27 at 9am for the Dance Showcase! All classes have been participating in Dance Classes these past 5 weeks and would love to show you what they have learned! Our class has been asked to wear black pants and a solid colour t-shirt for the performance if possible. It is not necessary to wear the outfit for the dress rehearsal on Thursday.
- Report cards are coming home March 5th!
- Starting after Spring Break, all Brentwood classes will be singing with Mrs. Jill Chater once or twice a week with performances on April 20th and 21st! More information, including which classes will perform which night, will come later.
