Hello Parents.

What an amazing week!  The children participated in IRIDE which challenged them to ride in very muddy, rainy conditions and participate in obstacle courses with ramps and jumps and games on their bike, like Capture the Flag.  Ask your child about the ride and which part was their favorite.

In writing, children finished their descriptive paragraphs about their haunted houses.  They painted an evening sky with watercolours and added a haunted house silhouette with black paper and sharpies to accompany their writing.  In reading, the students worked on summarizing fictional text. In math, students wrote their final test in addition and  learned about place value with decimal places. We continued to explore the human body in science and started a focus on the circulatory system. In socials studies, we finished learning about maps and early explorers.  Below are the events and learning planned for next week.

Next Week

Writing: Look at the /k/ sound pattern in spelling; Halloween Apprentice Application; Begin to look at Remembrance Day and write poems with that theme. 

Reading: Ceate book reviews for personal reading books;

Math: Smartie Math; Begin subtraction of large numbers; Problem Solving; Equations;

Science: Circulatory System

P.E. Continue working on soccer skills and co-operative games;

Art: Poppy Field Watercolours

Reminders

Halloween Monday:  Costume parade at 10:30.  NO BLOOD, GORE, WEAPONS or MASKS-anything that would scare the younger children or inhibit your child from working in the class is not allowed.

Sugar Rush Run: Tuesday at 1:15 on the field.  Feel free to come and cheer the children on while they run laps.

Grade Five Parent Camp Meeting: Wednesday, 7:50 in Ms. Sinclair Wise's room;

Goethe Math Exhibit Field Trip:  Thursday, Nov 3 to DRC -if you haven't returned the permission form, please send it to school as soon as possible.

Early Closures and Non Instructional Day

1:48 Pick up on Nov 9 and 10th - Friday Remembrance Day, Monday Nov. 14 Non Instructional Day. Students will not be in session.

Parent-Teacher Interviews - We would like to meet with every parent during our Term One  interviews on November 9th and 10th.  Please copy and paste  the link below in your browser and choose a time that suits you.  Some people have had difficulty getting the link to work.  If this is the case, please email with a preferred time and we will put you on the schedule. If you have not signed up by the middle of next week, we will be calling you to set up a time to meet.
