Hello Division 13 Families.

Below you will find the events and reminders for the week.  Please be sure to read all the way through to see the events planned for Literacy Week.

Math:With Mrs. Brown, we will befin our unit on large digit subtraction..  With Ms. Nightingale,  we are continuing to practice how to calculate the area of various objects. We are gearing up for our Design a Zoo project that enables students to apply what they have learned about perimeter and area.

Writing: Students will begin informational writing this week where they will choose to write about something that interests them.

Reading: We will continue reading our novel, Everest-The Contest, this week. Students will read and complete various reading response activities after reading.

Social Studies:Last week in Social Studies we had a fantastic discussion around two explorers that landed on Canadian soil.  We read excerpts from Will Ferguson who gives different perspectives on the European explorers we are examining. Students are being encouraged to think critically about where the information we learn about history comes from, and through what lens. We were only able to get through Cabot and Cartier, so this week we will explore Champlain and Cook.  While we are learning about these explorers, students are taking notes and creating their Explorer Trading Cards. I'm always impressed by the artistic abilities in our classroom! Their sketches of these explorers were impressive!

Science: we will start learning more about the different land biomes on our planet.

Art: This week we are making corner bookmarks for literacy week.

Physical Education: This week, we will continue our basketball unit.
