Hello everyone,
We had an adventurous Buddy session today! We conducted science experiments - Making Raisins dance (putting raisins in pop in a gradulated cylinder), making oobleck - cornstarch and water (changing state from liquid to solid when squeezed) and finally blowing up a balloon on a bottle (mixing vinegar and baking soda in a bottle, putting a baloon on it - CO2 gas is produced to blow up the baloon!) IT was lots of fun rotating through the different stations. Please ask your child which was their favourite station and why?
Eagle Convocation - we went to Miss VanDusen's room to play Eagle Jeopardy! We had buzzers to push to answer many questions. The most popular topic was Harry Potter!
Sharing - this week was fun seeing/hearing about the different shapes children found in their house. Next week please have your child bring in an object/picture that is one of the 3 states of matter - solid, liquid or gas. For example: Clues 1) You breathe it out 2) You breathe it in 3) You can push your hand back and forth to feel it...what is it? Air - gas Please help your child with creating the clues - thanks.
Ice Castle fun! This coming Thursday, January 27th, we will be joining Mrs. Westwood's class right away outside under the covered area to make a collaborative ice castle. You and your child can fill up any size of container you want and put them in the freezer. You can see how long they take to freeze. You can add food colouring if you wish too. The more containers, the larger the castle!
Next week is Literacy Week at Brentwood! Our teacher-librarian, Miss Brown, has arranged some fun activities for the week. On Thursday, students are invited to bring a flashlight to school. On Friday, Dress up as a favourite book character, wear a fun hat, or wear an eagle shirt! Also, Monday marks the beginning of Cst. Gentile's Reading Challenge! If Brentwood can read a total of 50,000 minutes, the top readers get to blast Cst. Gentile with silly string! Reading Logs will come home Monday.
