Hello Division 13 Families.
Below you will find the events and reminders for the week. Please remember, we are carving pumpkins this Friday. Please send a cleaned out pumpkin with your child this Friday, October 29th.
Math:With Mrs. Brown students will continue to compare large numbers using our knowledge of place value and value of digits in a number. We will also use what we know about place value to continue practicing our skip counting. With Ms. Nightingale, we will be learning about measurement.
Reading: Since we ran out of time last week, this week students will read about candy corn and how it is made. Students will demonstrate their comprehension by writing a summary and answering comprehension questions.
Writing: We complete our final drafts of our “Haunted House for Sale” descriptive writing. Students will have an opportunity to share their writing with their classmates.
Social Studies: In Socials, we are carrying on with our mapping unit. We are also finishing up our research projects about a province or territory of our choice focusing on indigenous groups that live there, resources and services, land formations and bodies of water. Students will be using the information they have learned to write postcards to teach other students in our class about their part of Canada.
Science: In Science, our Five Senses unit will take us outside. We are using our Strong Nations local plant cards to carry out a scavenger hunt if the winds aren't too much.
Physical Education: This week we will play cooperative games as well as continue our focus on soccer skills.
Art: We will work on a 3-D haunted house paper model which will accompany our descriptive writing. In addition, we will be sewing spiders and carving pumpkins.
This Wednesday, we will be sewing spiders and I need parent helpers for this job. If you are able to help with this on Wednesday 10:15-11:15, please send me an email. Volunteers are required to sign in at the office for contact tracing, as well as wear a mask.
