Hello Families.

Below are the events and reminders for the week.  If you have any questions, please email us.

Math:  With Mrs. Brown students will use everything they have learned in Place Value and complete a math project called, “Candy Rush”.  Look for photos of their projects on FreshGrade next week.  With Ms. Westmacott, we will be continuing with standard measurement, creating our own Metric Monsters to practice these skills!

Writing:Students will continue  writing a descriptive fictional narrative  where they will be selling a haunted house.  Focus will be on descriptive language which helps the reader paint a picture in their mind.

Reading:  Last week students worked in pairs to read a story and write a summary.  This week students will choose a short story to read and then write their own summary.  Focus will be retelling the story using details from the beginning, middle and end.

Science:  Science will have us continuing to explore the musculo-skeletal system

Social Studies:   For Social Studies we will have a look at where the election results are currently at and shift our focus to municipal and federal government and their responsibilities.

Physical Education: This week we will start the week with exercise stations. We will also continue  working on soccer skills and play mini games.

Art:  We will be finishing our three - dimensional eyeballs for Halloween and we will be sewing spiders.

Reminders

October 29th - Classroom Pumpkin Carving - We ask that all children bring a cleaned out pumpkin on Thursday, October 29th for afternoon pumpkin carving.  Children who have carving tools (no knives please) should bring them to carve but please make sure they are labelled.

October 30th - Brentwood Spirit Day-- On October 30, children and staff will participate in a spirit day. To ensure this day allows entry points that are comfortable for all of our Eagles, we will have an Eagle spirit day where children may wear either their eagle family colour or a costume. We remind families that this is still a day where we will be observing our regular health and safety protocols, so as such, accessories to costumes and gloves for costumes should remain at home. We also remind families that costumes should be fun and friendly, and to please save masks and scary face paint for home. Thanks to our PAC for the purchase of Eagle shirts for our school-- these are on order and will be here soon! If you do not know which colour Eagle family your child is in, please ask your child's teacher.

November 4th and 5th - Early Dismissal - Please sign up for a virtual parent teacher conference or for a phone call.  Click this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vkC-Hsi6RHtRXv1HiwvxvrFGbrKYkjmIs2ItwTGhzQE/edit?usp=sharing

Families on Property- Ensuring the well-being of our school community is our number one priority. We are noticing that there is some congestion occurring on all sides of the school. This is a reminder that families should drop off/pick up children at the edges of the school property. We also remind you that mask usage is a protective measure where it is not possible to maintain physical distance. This would be the case for adults at all times on our property and is in alignment with our staff's health and safety plan. Thank you for working together with us to help keep our school healthy.

Please contact out Principal, Sara Salemink, at ssalemink@saanichschools.ca if you have questions. We are all in this together!

Fresh Grade: Invites have been sent for Fresh Grade.  Once you accept the invite and set up an account, you will be able to see your child's work.

INDOOR SHOES:  As the weather turns, we ask you to send a pair of indoor shoes with your child.  It is preferable to have the shoes stay in the classroom but it is also okay to have them in the backpack if they need to go back and forth between school and home.
