Hello Families.

Below are the events and reminders for the week.  If you have any questions, please email us.

Math:   Students wrote a quiz Friday on place value. Quizzes were sent home for parent viewing..  This week our focus shifts to ordering and comparing large numbers. With Ms. Westmacott, students will be working on standard measurement using a ruler.

Writing: This week we will start our descriptive writing.  Students will be writing a descriptive fictional narrative  where they will be selling a haunted house.  Focus will be on descriptive language which helps the reader paint a picture in their mind.

Reading:  We will continue to  read some short stories and explore ways to write a summary.  Students will pull ten important points out of their short story and learn how to put those points into a written summary.

Science:   This week we will be moving on to the musculo-skeletal structures and functions of the body.

Socials Studies:   In social studies we will be looking at the different levels of government, their responsibilities, and the responses of local parties to issues brought up for the upcoming provincial election.

Physical Education: This week we shift our focus to soccer.  We will be working on soccer skills and playing mini games.

Art:  We will be making three - dimensional eyeballs for Halloween and prepping for sewing spiders.

Reminders

Monday, October 19th - Last day to Order forPAC Fundraiser

Friday, October 23rd - Pro-D Day - No school for students.

Thursday, October 29th - Classroom Pumpkin Carving - We ask that all children bring a cleaned out pumpkin on Thursday, October 29th for afternoon pumpkin carving.  Children who have carving tools (no knives please) should bring them to carve but please make sure they are labelled.

Friday, October 30th - Brentwood Spirit Day-- On October 30, children and staff will participate in a spirit day. To ensure this day allows entry points that are comfortable for all of our Eagles, we will have an Eagle spirit day where children may wear either their eagle family colour or a costume. We remind families that this is still a day where we will be observing our regular health and safety protocols, so as such, accessories to costumes and gloves for costumes should remain at home. We also remind families that costumes should be fun and friendly, and to please save masks and scary face paint for home. Thanks to our PAC for the purchase of Eagle shirts for our school-- these are on order and will be here soon! If you do not know which colour Eagle family your child is in, please ask your child's teacher.

Families on Property- Ensuring the well-being of our school community is our number one priority. We are noticing that there is some congestion occurring on all sides of the school. This is a reminder that families should drop off/pick up children at the edges of the school property. We also remind you that mask usage is a protective measure where it is not possible to maintain physical distance. This would be the case for adults at all times on our property and is in alignment with our staff's health and safety plan. Thank you for working together with us to help keep our school healthy.

Please contact out Principal, Sara Salemink, at ssalemink@saanichschools.ca if you have questions. We are all in this together!

Fresh Grade: Last week I sent permission forms for your child to use Fresh Grade.  This will be an excellent way for me and your child to share work they are completing at school. Please sign and send the form to school as soon as possible.

INDOOR SHOES:  As the weather turns, we ask you to send a pair of indoor shoes with your child.  It is preferable to have the shoes stay in the classroom but it is also okay to have them in the backpack if they need to go back and forth between school and home.
