Hello Families.

We hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Here are the events for this week and reminders for the month of February

Math With Mrs. Brown, we wrote our final addition test and begin our unit on subtraction of large numbers.  We will also be reviewing financial literacy and each student will have a one on one interview to demonstrate what they know about the value of currency.  Students will also have an opportunity to demonstrate or learn how to make change and count it back.  This financial literacy will be an ongoing process until each student has had an opportunity to show what they know. With Ms. Rickson, we will begin our unit on Geometry by responding to a visual prompt off of mathbeforebed.com .

WritingWe continue to work on letter writing and will also focus on how to address a letter, as it has become evident that many of the students need help with this task.

ReadingThis week we continue  our novel study on "Number the Stars".  We will read chapters 6 and 7 and will be completing some reading response activities for each chapter.  Ask your child about this book and have a discussion about it. Let them give you details by asking questions about what they are reading.

Applied Skills, Design and Technology -  We are continuing with our Google Slides presentation on "My Favourites..." during our computer time. Ms. Rickson has been excited to learn that many students are wanting to work on this at home as well, which they are more than welcome to do! This week we will also continue coding with our Spheros. Lastly, we will have a reminder about expected behaviour when using the Spheros, and when in the computer lab.

Physical Education: We continue to work on our gymnastics skills as we are lucky to have the district gymnastics mats for the month of January.

Science  We will be beginning our unit on simple machines by watching Caine's Arcade and a Science Max video.  We will discuss our upcoming Arcade Project.

Art:  This week we begin our Valentine heart art using felts and pencil crayons.

Buddies : We will be reflecting on what it means to be a good attentive buddy by writing a buddy oath to share with our buddies at a later date.
