Hello Families.

Last week was busy and we were lucky to have our first Brentwood Eagle Convocation! What this means is that everyone in the school was divided into fifteen Eagle Colour Families. We all met and introduced ourselves then made a flag for our eagle family. Ask your child which eagle colour they are. We are going to meet in our eagle groups once a month throughout the year.

Although this week is a short one (Pro-D day on Friday), we have a very full and busy week.  On Tuesday, Mrs. Elm will be taking the grade fours to begin practising FSAs.   We have our first Fun Lunch on Wednesday.  Thursday we have "The Great Shake Out" and students will participate in the municipal  student vote. In addition to all of these items, we will be working on math, writing, reading, science, art and P.E..  Below are our events and reminders for the week.

Math With Mrs. Brown:Students continue to work on place value with our focus this week on comparing and ordering large numbers.  With Ms. Rickson: Students continue to work on compiling data and creating and analyzing various types of graphs.

WritingWe continue our descriptive writing unit, exploring the difference between telling and showing with our words. Students continue to explore different ways to make written work more interesting and descriptive so the written piece creates a picture in the reader's mind.  We are also working on using a many different connector words to create a variety of rich compound sentences instead of many simple sentences.

Science: Students continue to learn about forces and simple machines.  This week students worked on their real life lever diagrams.

Social Studies: Today students looked at the different candidates for Central Saanich council, comparing the similarities and differences so students can make an informed vote at Thursday's student vote.

Physical Education: This week we continue to work on our soccer skills. Students have been split into four teams and will play a series of 8 mini soccer games throughout this week.

Art:  Students will work with Fall colored watercolor paints.  They will paint a warm background and them a silhouette of a tree in the foreground.  This should make for a beautiful piece of art to hang in your home.
