Hello Parents.

We started this week by continuing with some of the projects we began last week.  We have also been busy preparing for our assembly tomorrow, where we will be singing a song and playing a special Jeopardy game with a focus on the core competency, "Creative Thinking".  We continue to prepare for our dance extravaganza which will be next week on Tuesday and Wednesday (see details and invitation below).  See below for a detailed description of all or activities and some important dates to remember.

Math With Mrs. Brown: Students wrote their final multiplication test on Monday.  The test will be sent home on Thursday.  Please ask your child to see their test.  We will begin our unit on long division on Wednesday. We are also working on learning our basic multiplication facts. Please practise this with your children at home. With Mr. Lurie: We begin a new unit on probability and statistics.
WritingThis week we continue to work on poetry, creating a shape poems and "I Am" poems.  In addition to poetry, we are finishing our research portion of our inquiry project on Canadian women through history.  Next week, students will be taught the process of taking their notes and turning them into sentences and paragraphs with our goal of a one page, multi-paragraph essay.
Reading: We continue to work on our Reader's Theatre where students will perform a read aloud play in groups.  Performance date will be later in May.  We are also reading articles from Canadian Reader where the children will be working on finding the main idea of a reading passage.

Science: This week we continue our unit  on space. We finally get our visit from the Royal Astronomical Society on May 10th.  Students have also been watching the moon phases and studying constellations.

Social Studies: Continue looking at one of Canada's natural resources: Forestry and Physiographic features of Canada.

Art: We are still trying to finish our peacock paintings...we are hoping to have them complete by Thursday.  Students have also been working on a special top secret project for a special someone which will be brought home this weekend.

Physical Education: Our focus this week has been games out on the field.  Capture the Flag seems to be a favourite.

Dance:  Students continued to practise the dance for the Fine Arts Festival and for the performance in May.  Mark your calendars now...the performance will be on Tuesday, May 15th at 12:30 in the gym or Wednesday, May 16th, at 9:00 in the gym.  Please choose to attend ONE of the performances only.
