Hello parents.

We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving weekend spent with family and friends. The children came to school today,  excited to share all the events from their weekend.

Last week was very busy with the fire hall visit and IRide.  We hope your child shared with you some of the many safety tips they learned at the visit to the fire hall. Ask them what their favourite safety station was.  We also hope they enjoyed IRide and learned a little bit more about cycling skill and safety.

This week will be a little bit less busy but filled with interesting learning. Tomorrow all students will receive a Be Kind t-shirt which was purchased by the P.A.C. A huge thank you to the P.A.C. for purchasing t-shirts for the entire school.  An extra thank you to the parent volunteers who went to each of the students and made sure they ordered the correct size.

Here are the events and reminders for the week.

Math With Mrs. Brown, students have been working on place value.  Students continue to work on  converting numbers in their standard form to expanded form and writing the numbers in words.  Students have also been learning about ordering numbers.  On Thursday there will be a small quiz on place value.
With Mr. Lurie, students continue  work on their math unit on measurement.
Writing:  Students are continue to work on writing a persuasive paragraph from the perspective of a pumpkin who wishes to stay in the pumpkinn patch.  In their paragraph, students will try to persuade the reader to choose another pumpkin for carving.

Reading: Students will use their abilities to look for clues in reading passages to answer questions specific to the text.

Socials StudiesStudents continue  to look at Coastal BC, approximately 2000 years ago, and the conditions (physical landscape, climate, flora and fauna) that allowed for the success of humans. The focus is currently on First Peoples before contact with Europeans. Units on early contact and the fur trade will follow.
Science Students continue to work on understanding the interdependence of humans and their environment (ecosystems). The focus will be on how living  things sense, respond and adapt to stimuli in their environment. As a class, students are asking big questions for the purpose of scientific inquiry such as "How do we care for the environment?" and "How does it provide for us?" They have also used the computer lab to build a table using LibreOffice Writer and to answer questions from their reading on condors. They can tell you why scientists track condors using  radio tags instead of leg bands.

ArtToday students used Model Magic to make owls.  The students from last year who already made owls decided to make dogs and cats instead.  We hope to add colour to our creations tomorrow.
