Hello Parents.

Welcome back to the final three months of school.  I hope everyone was able to have a wonderful break.  From the stories I heard today, it sounds like everyone kept very busy the past two weeks.

On the last Wednesday before the break, report cards were sent home.  Hopefully you were able to review the report card with your child.  This is a reminder to sign the report card envelope and send it back to school as soon as possible.

Here are our events and reminders for this week:

This Week:

Writing: Today we created a poster filled with information and drawings about our Spring Break activities.  Students also wrote about their Spring Break.  Rough drafts are due tomorrow (Tuesday) and those students who did not finish were asked to bring their drafts home for homework.  Good copies will be completed by Thursday.

Reading:  Novel Study:  "Number the Stars".  We will be reading chapter eight and nine and students will complete a written response for each chapter. Ask your child about the story and what is happening at this point in the novel.  Also, get them to predict what they think might happen.

Math:   Multiplication drills; *Please help your child learn their multiplication tables.*Multiplication: The children will be completing their resort planning/house planning  project where they are applying  all that they have learned in multiplication to calculating the costs of building their own resort/house.  Once we finish these projects, we will begin division.

Science:   This week we begin our unit on Simple Machines.  Students will learn about the six simple machines and how they help to make life easier.

Socials Studies: We will begin reading Fatty Legs together as a class and take a deeper look at residential schools.

Art:  Students are finishing their pastel flower art and will work on ceramics later in the week.

P.E.:  Our focus is on volleyball  skills and cooperative games.

Reminders:

Cross Country starts this week. We will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch running just over 1 km. Students must have their signed permission forms returned by Tuesday in order to be allowed to participate in our run off of school grounds. The meets are all at Centennial Park on April 19th, 26th, and May 3rd after school. Parents are responsible for getting their child to and from the meets. We will also need volunteers on the 26th to help with course marshalling as we are one of the host schools on this date. Please let me know if you can help.

New Gym Floor:  We arrived to school today to find a brand new gym floor.  As a result, the gym will be closed this week to allow the painted lines to cure. This means there will be no Action Morning and our gym classes will have to be outside.

Hot Lunch: Online ordering is now open and closes Wednesday, April 9th at 9pm. Paper order forms are available in the foyer is you do not have access to online ordering.

PAC Fundraiser: This Thursday, April 6th from 6-8 at Charming Charlie in Uptown Mall.

Refex Math:  It has been decided that the PAC will not renew the school subscription for Reflex Math.  As a result, students will no longer be able to access their accounts. Instead of Reflex, it is expected that students spend 20 minutes a night working on Prodigy Math. If you have any questions, please email me.
