Hello Parents.

Here are our events and reminders for this week:

This Week:

Writing: Students are finishing their spring break posters and writing.

Reading:  Novel Study:  "Number the Stars".  We will be reading chapter 11 to 13 and students will complete a written response for each chapter. Ask your child about the story and what is happening at this point in the novel.  Also, get them to predict what they think might happen.

Math:   Multiplication drills; *Please help your child learn their multiplication tables.*; We have started division.  Students began the unit by dividing a number of mystery items into groups. They will also complete questions demonstrating their knowledge of the relationship between multiplication and division.

We also started our geometry unit by exploring and sorting quadrilaterals based on multiple attributes (parallel lines, length of sides, etc.). Next week we are going to explore and sort shapes based on their lines of symmetry.

Science:   We continue our unit on Simple Machines.  This week students will learn about the wheels and axles and how wheels cannot work properly without an axle.

Social Studies - We finished chapter 3 of Fatty Legs and students answered a series of response questions related to the reading. Ask your child about Olemaun's experience at residential school. How does it compare to Brentwood Elementary?

Art:  Students are working on clay creatures this week.  Grade fives are painting and glazing, while grade fours are building their creatures.

P.E.:  Our focus is on volleyball  skills and cooperative games.

Important Dates to Remember:

Good Friday & Easter Monday

Good Friday, Friday, April 14 & Easter Monday, April. 17th.

Reminders:

Cross Country starts this week. We will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch running just over 1 km. Students must have their signed permission forms returned by Tuesday in order to be allowed to participate in our run off of school grounds. The meets are all at Centennial Park on April 19th, 26th, and May 3rd after school. Parents are responsible for getting their child to and from the meets. We will also need volunteers on the 26th to help with course marshalling as we are one of the host schools on this date. Please let me know if you can help.

New Gym Floor:  In an attempt to keep the gym floor clean, I am insisting the kids wear clean shoes.  Please make sure your child has a pair of clean shoes ready for gym.

Hot Lunch: Online ordering is now open and closes Wednesday, April 9th at 9pm. Paper order forms are available in the foyer is you do not have access to online ordering.

Refex Math:  It has been decided that the PAC will not renew the school subscription for Reflex Math.  As a result, students will no longer be able to access their accounts. Instead of Reflex, it is expected that students spend 20 minutes a night working on Prodigy Math. If you have any questions, please email me.
