Hello everyone.
We begin our week with an amazing opportunity to go to the symphony at the University of Victoria. Our bus leaves immediately after attendance is taken on Monday morning, so it is very important to arrive at school on time. Here are the rest of the events and reminders for this week.
This Week:
Writing: We continue to finish our opinion pieces. Students will also be writing a reflection on the symphony and a letter to their parents.
Spelling pattern: Double consonants.
Reading: Novel Study: "Number the Stars". We will continue reading chapter three and students will begin writing summaries for their, "Matchbook Summary Folder".
Math: Multiplication drills; *Please help your child learn their multiplication tables.*; Multiplication: The children will work on a review sheet for multiplication and then, they will have a quiz on Tuesday. Please remind them to review on Monday night. We will also begin real life application of multiplication. Children will begin a resort planning project where they will apply all that they have learned in multiplication to calculating the costs of building their own resort. Statistics and Probability: We continued to explore probability by designing an experiment to answer the following question: "A local restaurant gives out a toy with each kids meal. There are six different awesome toys and you’re randomly given one at each visit. You can’t exchange toys or request toys. You get what you get and you don’t get upset. A lady approaches you because she knows what a great mathematician you are and she wants to know “About how many kids’ meals do I have to order to get at least one of each toy?"Students rolled a 6-sided die and graphed the number of rolls it took to get all 6 toys. Students quickly realized that the more times they conducted the experiment, the more accurate their suggestion would be.
Science: Students continue to complete their posters on the human body. Hopefully this week they will complete them and bring them home to show you what they have learned.
Socials Studies: Part two of our buddy story drama with our buddies.
Art: Grade fours will etch the clay plates they created last week. Grade fives will begin painting or glazing their creatures.
P.E.: Our focus is on basketball skills and cooperative games.
Reminders:
Our fields are WET! - Boots, jackets, hats and gloves will make outside playtime so much better! It is a good idea to pack an extra change of clothes as well as the grounds are very wet! We need to get out and get some fresh air so this will really help us have fun!
Agendas, Reading Calendars and Reflex: Please check and sign your child's agenda every night. Students should also be reading and doing 20 minutes of Reflex Math each night. Don't forget to sign your child's reading calendar when they have completed their nightly reading.
