Hello Division 13 Families.

Welcome to the new school year and our class Moodle site.  This will be the place where we will keep you posted on all classroom events, homework, and important school dates. Please check this page often.

This year, Division 13 students will have two teachers.  Mrs. Nightingale will be teaching on Mondays and will be teaching all the science, social studies and some numeracy. Mrs. Brown will be teaching on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and will be teaching the rest of the curriculum.  We sent a detailed letter home last week and hope you had an opportunity to read it. If you have any questions, let us know.

We are excited to be teaching your child this year and know this will be a fantastic year of learning.

Please email if you have any questions.

Lorree and Elisa

Below you will find the events and reminders for the week.

Math:  With Mrs. Brown, we will begin reviewing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  Students will complete a math assessment at the end of the week to demonstrate their math knowledge.

Reading: We will begin reading assessments for term one. In addition, students will receive their reading sheets to keep track of at home reading. A letter will be sent home explaining our home reading program.

Writing:  Students will continue working on their “I Am” poems this week as well as their “Personal Trading Cards” which give students the opportunity to describe themselves and some of their interests. We will also look at the meaning of various character traits and identify those in ourselves and others. Students will identify a character trait which describes them and explain how they represent that character trait.

Social Studies:   In social studies, we spent time in small groups brainstorming what we knew about our country, from when it started to present day.  Afterwards, we had a discussion and asked questions about different types of government, including democracy.  The conversations about voting, political parties, voting age and our current election was respectful and many had great thoughts to contribute to the discussion.

This coming Monday, we will be participating in our school-wide Student Vote after hearing the platforms of the current political parties.  Everything will be done in confidence and it is always interesting to see who the students would elect for Prime Minister.

Physical Education: The past week we have been exploring various physical literacy games.  We will continue to introduce cooperative games this week.

Art: Last week students viewed various growth mindset quotes and chose one quote to illustrate on a poster.   We will complete these this week.

*If you have not done so already, please send a scrapbook (Hilroy - 20 pages)with your child to school. *

*Please send in the student information form we sent home on Friday, September 10th.  We are still waiting to get email addresses from a few families.
