Hello Families.
Below are the events and reminders for the week. If you have any questions, please email us.
Math: With Mrs. Brown, students will be doing multiplication donut drills daily, so it would be beneficial for all students to continue practicing their multiplication facts each night. We will also continue multiplication of two digit numbers by one digit numbers and three digit numbers by one digit numbers. Some students are challenging themselves by working on two digit by two digit multiplication. With Mrs. Westmacott, we will continue working on our peer created perimeter and area questions.
Reading and Writing:This week we will read chapters 11 and 12 from Number the Stars. The discussion point will be sources of pride. Students will identify each character’s source of pride in the chapters. They will also be asked to identify sources of pride in themselves and find a way to connect to the novel.
Science: In science we will continue planning and building our cardboard arcade games.
Social Studies: In social studies, we will continue working on creating our posters or slideshows for the numbered treaties.
Physical Education: This week we will start with a fitness circuit and then we will play a number of co-operative games
Art: This week we will continue learning about Coast Salish weaving and the cultural significance of this wonderful art form. We will also connect the weaving to math concepts. Through videos, we will learn from First Nations knowledge keepers who will share their knowledge about weaving. Students will follow an algorithm to weave a fish with imitation paper cedar.

Families on Property- Ensuring the well-being of our school community is our number one priority. We are noticing that there is some congestion occurring on all sides of the school. This is a reminder that families should drop off/pick up children at the edges of the school property. We also remind you that mask usage is a protective measure where it is not possible to maintain physical distance. This would be the case for adults at all times on our property and is in alignment with our staff's health and safety plan. Thank you for working together with us to help keep our school healthy.
Please contact out Principal, Sara Salemink, at ssalemink@saanichschools.ca if you have questions. We are all in this together.
INDOOR SHOES: As the weather turns, we ask you to send a pair of indoor shoes with your child. It is preferable to have the shoes stay in the classroom but it is also okay to have them in the backpack if they need to go back and forth between school and home.
