Hello Families.

Last  week was so busy, I did not get to post the blog for the week. Below I will include what we accomplished this past week and what we will be doing this week.

Below are the events and reminders for the week. If you have any questions, please email us.

Math:  With Mrs. Brown, last week we completed our addition unit and students wrote their final test.  The tests will be sent home this week.   We also started our unit in large digit subtraction.  We will continue working on subtraction this week. With Ms. Westmacott, last week, we finished up our pixel name art and completed some practice questions with our perimeter skills. This week we will be practicing perimeter and introducing area.

Reading and Writing: Last week, students wrote summaries of Number the Stars, chapter two. Writing this week will focus on responding to chapter three and four.

Science: Last week we reviewed the circulatory system and turned our focus to levers for our cardboard arcade This week we will be continuing to learn about levers and then transitioning into pulleys.

Social Studies:  In social studies last week, we learned about the current Saanich moon, The Moon of the Child. This week we in social studies, we will be returning to our research of the numbered treaties.

Physical Education: This week we will start with a fitness circuit and then we will continue with basketball skills.

Art: Last week students painted and glazed some of their clay creations.  We will continue to glaze this week.

Hello Grade Four/Five Families.

As you may have heard, the grade 4 and 5 classes will be participating in the cardboard arcade project this year! We will be collecting building materials for the arcade next week Monday-Friday before and after school. A collection bin will be placed outside the office. There is a list of materials that we will be collecting for the arcade, please do not donate any items that are not specifically listed. The list of items will be sent home this week.

These items will then be isolated for 2 weeks and likely sprayed as per the Covid protocols. If you would like to donate some of the items listed, please know that no student is guaranteed any of the items that they donate. Meaning that all items donated could go to any student participating in the arcade project. Also, students are only allowed to work on their arcade machines during school hours and only use the items that their teachers have given them. This is to help give all students the same opportunities during this project.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We are so looking forward to this project!

Non Instructional Day -Our next Non Instructional Day is February 12th 2021

Climbing Wall Field Trip: This is planned for February 26th in the afternoon. More information will follow soon about this field trip.

Families on Property- Ensuring the well-being of our school community is our number one priority. We are noticing that there is some congestion occurring on all sides of the school. This is a reminder that families should drop off/pick up children at the edges of the school property. We also remind you that mask usage is a protective measure where it is not possible to maintain physical distance. This would be the case for adults at all times on our property and is in alignment with our staff's health and safety plan. Thank you for working together with us to help keep our school healthy.

Please contact out Principal, Sara Salemink, at ssalemink@saanichschools.ca if you have questions. We are all in this together.

INDOOR SHOES:  As the weather turns, we ask you to send a pair of indoor shoes with your child.  It is preferable to have the shoes stay in the classroom but it is also okay to have them in the backpack if they need to go back and forth between school and home.
