Hello Families.

Below are the events and reminders for the week. If you have any questions, please email us.

Math:  With Mrs. Brown students will  begin looking at strategies for rounding whole numbers to the nearest tenth, hundred and thousand. With Ms. Westmacott,  we will continue to work on measurement using a ruler and will begin discussing the various units of metric linear measure.

Writing:This week we will continue working on our grade wide write on the topic, “My Favorite Place I’ve Been”.  We will also continue talking about Remembrance Day and what it means and finish the poems we started last week.

Reading:  This week students will continue writing a summary based on a new short story they choose to read.  Focus will be retelling the story using details from the beginning, middle and end.

Science:  In science we will be wrapping up learning the terminology for our musculo-skeletal unit and will practice using it in context.

Social Studies:   In social studies we will be continuing with roles and responsibilities of government, as well as doing a Remembrance activity looking at what peace is and how we can promote it.

Physical Education: We will continue  working on soccer skills and play mini games.

Art:  This week students will add sharpie details to our watercolour scenes of poppies in a field.

Reminders

November 10th - Remembrance Day Slideshow Assembly (This will take place in our classroom and we will watch the “assembly” in the form of a slideshow.) - We will be collecting donations for veterans on this day if you wish to donate.

November 11th - Remembrance Day - No school for students and staff.

November 13th - Photo Re-takes

November 20th- Pro-D Day (Number 3 out of 6) - No school for students.

Families on Property- Ensuring the well-being of our school community is our number one priority. We are noticing that there is some congestion occurring on all sides of the school. This is a reminder that families should drop off/pick up children at the edges of the school property. We also remind you that mask usage is a protective measure where it is not possible to maintain physical distance. This would be the case for adults at all times on our property and is in alignment with our staff's health and safety plan. Thank you for working together with us to help keep our school healthy.

Please contact out Principal, Sara Salemink, at ssalemink@saanichschools.ca if you have questions. We are all in this together.

INDOOR SHOES:  As the weather turns, we ask you to send a pair of indoor shoes with your child.  It is preferable to have the shoes stay in the classroom but it is also okay to have them in the backpack if they need to go back and forth between school and home.
