Hello Families.

We hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  The past two weeks have been busy weeks of learning.  Below we will outline learning which has taken place and new learning which will occur this week. We have also listed important dates and reminders, so read all the way to the bottom of the page.

Math:   With Mrs. Brown, we have been doing review of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Students completed assessments last week. This week, we will begin our unit on place value. With Ms. Westmacott: Students have been working on what measurement is, why we use it, and some basic forms of standard and non-standard measurement.

Writing: Last week students worked on their "Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall" poems.  We also began our personal narratives with summer activities as the topic focus. We will continue to work on the rough draft of our personal narratives this week.

Reading:  We continue with reading assessments for term one. In addition, students received their reading sheets to keep track of at home reading. We hope you have had time to read the letter sent home explaining our home reading program.  We also sent home a Scholastic order form.  Scholastic is now taking online orders and delivering orders to your home.  Please see the flyer for our class code.

ScienceStudents have been exploring what a scientist is and the basic structures and functions of the digestive system. This will continue in the coming weeks.

Socials Studies:  In social studies, we will be looking at the importance of why we learn about history and an introduction to the residential school system.  We also watched a video with Phyllis Webstad telling her orange shirt story.  If you wish to hear Phyllis' story, click on this you tube link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ll1pUrK29MM&feature=youtu.be

Physical Education: Over the last two weeks we have been exploring various physical literacy games.  We will continue to introduce cooperative games this week.

Art:  This week students will be making owls from Model Magic.  After the owls dry, we will use markers to add color.

*If you have not done so already, please send a scrapbook (Hilroy - 20 pages)with your child to school. *

*Please send in the student information form I sent home on Friday, September 18th.  I am still waiting to get email addresses from a few families.
