Last week was so busy, we didn't have time to update our blog.  Thanks to all the families who were able to attend our open house.  We hope you enjoyed viewing your child's work from term two.  We also had a fabulous field trip last week at the observatory.  We hope your child came home with many great details about the phases of the moon and other fun facts about our solar system. As we move into our final week before Spring Break, we wish you all a fun, adventurous time with family and friends over the next two weeks.

Here are the events and reminders for this week:

Math With Mrs. Brown, we continue our unit on large digit multiplication.  Last week our focus was on 3 digit by 1 digit multiplication.  This week we will begin 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication.   We will continue using the traditional method to solve the equations along with lattice multiplication. .Students should be practicing their multiplication facts at home, as we will be doing daily drills. In addition to multiplication, we will continue to look at Indigenous connections in math. Students are creating designs using Coast Salish elements to create their own spindle whirls.   With Mrs. Cannady: Students continue their learning on single transformations through whole group activities, individual work and partner games.

Writing and Reading: This week, students will have their first book club discussion after reading the first few chapters of their novels.  Ask your child what novel they chose to read.

Social Studies: This week we continue our Two Worlds unit and invite Ms. Di Lucca into our classroom to co-teach about the Age of Exploration or Exploitation. Students will review and record the reasons for European exploration westward. They will begin to understand that trade, and eventually land “acquisition” was the underlying expected outcome of exploration.

Art:This week students will work on their special clay project.

Physical Education: We will play cooperative games and finish our basketball unit.
