Here are the events and reminders for this week and next week:
Math: With Mrs. Brown, this week we will continue our unit on large digit subtraction. Students will be using subtraction in real-life contexts and problem-based situations. We did not get to our quiz last week, so the first subtraction quiz will be this Wednesday. In addition to subtraction, we have started our weekly Math Wall. This gives students an opportunity to problem solve together and use mathematical language. Ask your child about this weekly activity. With Mrs. Cannady: 1)After completing and reviewing a practice quiz last Friday, students will be write a quiz on Monday on polygon/quadrilaterals. 2) Students will continue studying transformations.
Writing and Reading: This week, we will continue term two reading assessments. Students will also continue to conference with Mrs. Brown about their chosen silent reading book and write reading responses at the end of selected silent reading blocks. Finally, we begin our Book Clubs this week where students will be introduced to six novels. After our book talks, students will pick their top three novels. Mrs. Brown will put students into groups based on their novel choice and Book Club will begin.

We will review the information found last week as messages in bottles and complete a map illustrating his voyages. 2) In the second part of our study, students will be looking at Columbus through the lens of the First Peoples with the read aloud Encounter by Jane Yolen.
