Hello Families.

What an incredible week we had last week.  We hope your child enjoyed their day at camp.  We had a fabulous time and were so pleased with the way the children handled themselves and challenged themselves to try new things.  It was a wonderful day!

Hard to believe we are in our final month of school.  This month will be very busy, so please make sure you read to the bottom and make note of all the important dates. Not only did we go to camp last week but we were also busy with activities at school.  In math with Mrs. Brown students continued with long division and wrote a quiz.  With Ms. Rickson we continued to work through our unit of perimeter and area by designing our own gardens and calculating the amount of fencing and soil needed. Some students are nearly finished, but just need to do some corrections.  In social studies  we learned about Residential Schools. The class read the picture books Shi-Shi-Etko and Shin-Chi's Canoe and discussed what we could learn about the residential school experience through those books. We then examined a few excerpts from the Indian Act, a piece of legislation created at Canada's confederation to govern the lives of Indigenous Canadians. In writing, we continued to work on writing our biographies for our women in history.  Students also worked on creating a narrative on their experience at camp. In reading, students were put into groups and are practising their reader theatre plays.  These should be wonderful and will be posted on Fresh Grade once we do the final performances. In SENCOTEN we created "I can" pages in SENCOTEN, modelled after a story we read two weeks ago. In computers students continue to work on their original GIFs. Many students have already finished their first, and are beginning a second one! Ms. Rickson is proud to see that students are always so eager to help each other solve problems as they work on this assignment. In PE, we worked  on our track unit, practising the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and relay. While some kids are using the track, others play a large game of capture the flag.

Next week:

Math With Mrs. Brown, students will finish the long division unit and will begin our final unit on fractions.   Students should continue to work on learning their basic multiplication facts up to the 12 times tables.  With Ms. Rickson, students will continue their garden project and we will have time to make  corrections and to have small group instruction for those who need a bit more support.

Writing: We continue our "Canadian Women of History" unit and students continue to write their biographies.  Students will also edit and finish the final copy of their narrative on camp.

Reading:  This week we continue practising Readers Theater. Students chose one out of four stories to perform in a group.

Socials Studies -This week we will continue to compare the residential school experience with our current school experience, as well as discuss steps to move toward reconciliation in our relationship with Indigenous Canadians.

Science:This week Mrs. Brown and Ms. Rickson will be going over maturation and body science.

Applied Skills, Design and Technolog - Students continue to work on their original GIFs. Many students have already finished their first, and are beginning a second one! Ms. Rickson is proud to see that students are always so eager to help each other solve problems as they work on this assignment.

Physical EducationWe continue  working on our track unit, practising the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and relay. While some kids are using the track, others play a large game of capture the
