Hello All.

The past two weeks have been filled with learning activities,a field trip and special visitors to the school.  Our visit to the Legacy Art Gallery was successful.  The children viewed a variety of art pieces created by local First Nations artists.  Each piece had an oral story associated with it and the children heard 4 stories.  After hearing the stories and viewing the art, we finished our visit making story sticks.  Your child should have brought their story sticks home.  Ask them about which story they chose to represent with their story stick.

Last week was the District Track Meet.  If you were able to pop by and watch your child compete, you know it was a successful day.  The weather co-operated and the children had a great day of competition.

This Week:

Writing: We continue to work on poetry.  Students are now writing their own poems.  So far, students have written a shape poem, a biography poem and this week they will be writing a colour poem.

Math:  Yesterday, students wrote a quiz on equivalent fractions. Tomorrow and the rest of this week we will be comparing and ordering fractions. In Geometry, students will write a test on Friday.

Science:   This week we take a break from Simple Machines and focus on Maturation.

Social Studies - Students have started a mini inquiry project. The focus of this project is on developing powerful questions and researching, rather than creating a final product. Students had the chance to explore the five possible topics - residential schools, immigration to Canada, natural resources, government, or the history of East and South Asian immigration - by browsing a number of books before deciding which topic they want to research. Students then began to develop questions that will guide their learning.

Art:  We have been busy creating a special ceramic project.  The project will be coming home this Thursday.

P.E.:  We will focus on co-operative games this week.
