Well, it's hard to believe we are in our final weel of school before our Winter Break.  This week will be busy, filled with many holiday activities but we will also try to fit in some focused learning too. We also ask that you please, please, please, get your child to work on learning their words for the concert this week.  Mr. Szczepanowski sent the lyrics home last week and the children should be practising.  Here are our events and reminders for the week.

This Week

Reading: We will finish looking and learning parts of a story.

Writing: We will do some holiday and Winter themed writing this week.

Math: We will finish work on equations and patterns with a test at the end of the week.

Science: Students are finishing their Muscular System mini research projects.

Socials Studies: Final week of origin stories.

PE: Gym is closed due to our Winter concert.  We will be rehearsing during some of our gym time and then we will attempt to play games outside during our other gym times.

Art: Special project...shh, it's a secret.

Reminders:

Please send fabric/ribbon for our special project this week.  We are also needing decorations (icing, smarties, sprinkles, etc.) for cookie decorating on Wednesday.

Winter Concert: Tuesday, December 13th, 6:30 in the gym.  Our class is to wear a white top and black bottoms and all children are to meet in our classroom at 6:10 on the evening of the performance. Below is a copy of Mrs. Alexander's letter. Please read it for details about the concert.

Cookie Decorating: Wednesday, December 14th

Festive Hat Day: Thursday, December 15th

Jingle Bell Run: Thursday, December 15th

Tree Chipping Fundraiser for Camp:  Trevor Coey of Bartlett Tree Experts has offered to bring his tree chipper to Brentwood on Saturday, January 7th.  This is a grade five camp fundraiser and we are asking for parent volunteers.  We need volunteers to be at the school with Trevor to collect donations and to help move the trees to the chipper.  Please contact Mrs. Brown if you are able to help on January 7th for a few hours.

Swim Club

We will be starting Swim Club at Brentwood again this year.  Practices will be held Monday afternoons from 3:15-4:00 at Panorama Pool with instructors from Island Swimming.  Students must be able to swim on length of the pool unassisted.  This program is not a learn to swim program. Parents will be responsible for getting their own child to and from the pool each week.

We will be starting Monday, January 9th and will practice until the week of March 13th.

Students interested have had one meeting and will be bring home a permission form for this event.  If your child is interested in joining and may have missed the meeting they can see Ms. Sinclair-Wise.
