Hello Families.

Below are the events and reminders for the week. If you have any questions, please email us.

Math:  With Mrs. Brown, this will be our last week of large digit subtraction.  There will be a final test on Thursday. With Ms. Westmacott, we will be practicing perimeter and area, finishing creating questions for peers and starting to try them out.

Reading and Writing: This week we will read chapters 6 and 7 from Number the Stars and students will complete a list of questions and wonders they’ve had up to this point in the novel.  They will also work on predicting what they think might happen next. Finally, students will complete a visualization activity, using sensory images they had as they read about a certain setting in the book.

In addition to our novel study, students will read about Chinese New Year which is on February 12th this year.  We will complete a number of activities in relation to Chinese New Year, including a guided drawing of an ox and writing in Chinese symbols.

Science: In science we will be working on incline planes, wedges, and wheel and axles.

Social Studies: In social studies, we will be working on creating our posters or slideshows for the numbered treaties.

Physical Education: This week we will start with a fitness circuit and then we will continue with basketball skills. Lately, we have been joining our cohort class once a week for a buddy PE class. We will have a buddy PE class on Wednesday this week.

Art: Guided drawing of an ox. We will also create special envelopes to collect our Valentine’s cards.

Families on Property- Ensuring the well-being of our school community is our number one priority. We are noticing that there is some congestion occurring on all sides of the school. This is a reminder that families should drop off/pick up children at the edges of the school property. We also remind you that mask usage is a protective measure where it is not possible to maintain physical distance. This would be the case for adults at all times on our property and is in alignment with our staff's health and safety plan. Thank you for working together with us to help keep our school healthy.

Please contact out Principal, Sara Salemink, at ssalemink@saanichschools.ca if you have questions. We are all in this together.

INDOOR SHOES:  As the weather turns, we ask you to send a pair of indoor shoes with your child.  It is preferable to have the shoes stay in the classroom but it is also okay to have them in the backpack if they need to go back and forth between school and home.
