Hello Families.
I must begin by thanking all of you for sending in food and other items for our Buddy Breakfast. It was a wonderful morning where the children could show off their manners and have a special meal with their buddies. An extra thank you to our volunteers parents and grandparents who made this event happen...we really could not have done it without your help...thank you!
The next few weeks will be extremely busy as we prepare for our Inquiry Museum this week and finish up units to end term two. Please read all the way to the bottom of this post to see all of the reminders. We have also created a link below for you to sign up for parent-teacher interviews. Please click on the link and sign up .
Here are the events for this week and reminders for the month of February and March.
Math: With Mrs. Brown, we continue to work on subtraction of large numbers where we will practice the concept of borrowing when subtracting multi-digit numbers. We will also be reviewing financial literacy and each student will have a one on one interview to demonstrate what they know about the value of currency. Students will also have an opportunity to demonstrate or learn how to make change and count it back. This financial literacy will be an ongoing process until each student has had an opportunity to show what they know. In addition, we will continue our "Math Wall" once a week for the rest of the year. Math Wall gives students the opportunity to solve math word problems and riddles together using math language as they discuss possible solutions to math problems. The purpose is to get students comfortable using math language as they try to solve problems together. Ask your child about this. Finally, we have started multiplication donut drills. Ask your child about these and if you are able, practice their multiplication facts with them. With Ms. Rickson, we will be creating a pattern puzzle with our pods and then we will travel around the room solving each other's puzzles.
Reading/Writing: This week we continue our novel study on "Number the Stars". We will read chapters 12 and 13 and will be completing some reading response activities for each chapter.
Science: We will be working on our cardboard arcade games and setting up for the museum on Wednesday. Thursday we will be in the gym presenting our games to various classes during the day and then to visiting parents in the afternoon. On Friday, we will take our arcade games back to the classroom and reflect on how our experience of building the games helped us understand simple machines.
Applied Skills, Design and Technology -We are continuing with our Google Slideshow "My Favourites." Students are working on adding backgrounds, animations, and colour schemes. On Friday we have the Spheros booked for us to continue developing our coding skills.
Physical Education: This week we continue to work on our basketball skills with a focus on dribbling and passing.
Art : This week art will be mixed in with science as the students work on their arcade games.
S.T.E.M.: Chinese New Year is upon us and it is the "Year of the Pig". This week students will present their pig pens and fill out a self reflection form.
