We want all of our students to have a safe and Happy Halloween!

Halloween Safety Tips

Kids under age 12 should:

  • always go trick-or-treating with an adult

  • know how to call 911 in case you get lost

  • know their home phone number or your cell phone number if you don't have a land line

  • carry a white bag or pillowcase for your candy, and add some reflective tape

  • dress for the weather – it might be cold and rainy and if you get wet you will be cold

  • walk from house to house don’t run and stay on sidewalks as much as possible

  • never think that a car that is coming will stop for you, wait for the car to pass

  • use glow sticks and flashlights so people can see you

  • stay in the neighbourhood your parents are with you in

Older kids who go out on their own should:

  • know their planned route and when they'll be coming home

  • carry a cell phone

  • go in a group and stay together

  • only go to houses with porch lights on, don’t visit houses that are not lit well

  • stay away from candles and other flames

  • know to never go into strangers' homes or cars

  • let your parents know where you’re going to be at all times

  • use the sidewalk whenever possible- if there is no sidewalk, walk on the side of the road facing traffic

  • don’t criss-cross back and forth across the road – work your way up one side of the street and then start the other

  • don’t eat any of your treats before you get home and have your parents look through your treats with you to make sure everything is ok
