A big THANK YOU to everyone who brought in a snack for our Valentine's Fun! We looked through our owl valentine bags, played games, ate snacks, and had choice time at the end of the day--fun times! Speaking of fun times, we had a great time on Literacy Day. Lots of children dressed up and we had our very own "mystery readers” come to read in our classroom. You can see the photos Miss di Lucca took on our library wall.

In our classroom, we have been learning about birds of prey. We had an expert from Swan Lake come to our classroom and teach us about owls--it was awesome! She showed us how one goose feather is louder than an entire owl wing! Now we know that owls are designed to be silent fliers. We played games, touched real owl wings and talons, and even got to examine an owl pellet like a scientist. We learned that owls often eat their food whole, and then cough up the pieces they can't digest. In our owl pellets, we found fur and bones from all kinds of creatures.

You may have noticed that in our classroom, we have some new activities. Inspired by the Franny K. Stein books we've read, there is now a "creation station” where children can use their imaginations and make inventions/crafts. If you have any craft supplies (paper towel rolls, kleenex boxes, cereal boxes, ribbon, etc.) you'd like to donate, they would be most appreciated. We also have a plasticine table where the children have been busy making "Barbara Reid art”. We watched her how-to videos (on our Moodle page under author studies, if you'd like to check them out) and it was so much fun to create pictures with plasticine! This week, we will create art for our Snowman at Night stories, so check out our hallway art soon!

This Friday, February 20,  is a Pro D. Day, and so there is no school for students. Because of this, we will continue to practice our spelling words, and have our test next Friday (Feb. 27).

The children have really enjoyed our dance lessons on Thursday mornings, and they are very enthusiastic dancers! On Friday, February 27, there is a dance showcase at our school at 9:00 and families are welcome.

In our class we have been talking about how everyone is different and how those differences make us special. The children are so great at filling up each other's buckets with kind words, notes, and acts of kindness. They are amazing people, and I appreciate them every day! We continue to have a superstar of the week--next week is Danisha, then Jensen, Gracie, Elliot, Cohen, Brodie, and Ben. Children will receive notices in their mailboxes the week before their turn.

In March, we are hoping to have a skating day with our big buddy class (Ms. Scott's grade fours), and we will be looking for parent drivers. If you would like to drive, but haven't got your criminal record check done, please do so asap. We would love you to come skating with us! There will be a small fee for skate rentals and each child will need a helmet (hockey or bike helmet). Once the details are arranged, your child will bring home a field trip notice.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please stop by after school to chat, or send me an email at aellison@sf63.bc.ca.

Have a great week,

Alyssa
